Abstract As part of important theological discussions, in 1403 Rosenheim and Seyringer left the University of Vienna and came to Subiaco; and there begins a century of high density of transmission of monastic and humanistic knowledge. 1) Thinktank at the Councils of Constance (1414-1418) and of Basel-Ferrara-Florence (1431-1449). 2) New ideas - new media - Printed books between Subiaco and Melk. In 1471 the monks of Melk and Subiaco discuss the advantages of printed books; special liturgical books. Laurencius points out that in Subiaco there are both devices and those who know how to use them. 3) Monastic - Humanistic - Political interests walk together. In the catalog of the Melk Monastery of 1517 we can take a very close look at the cosmos of knowledge; edged and determined by the monastic reading on the one hand, by the humanistic interests caused by the network between the monastery and the university on the other.
