Silvana D’Alessio will discuss the most important secondary literature on the revolt of Masaniello (1647-48). She will then analyse key primary sources upon which the history of the revolt has been reconstructed through the centuries. Moreover, this lecture will address themes such as how to measure the reliability of the historical sources, if a historiographer-litteratus can be automatically considered less reliable. Finally, this lecture will provide an overview of the latest developments in historical research on the revolt.
