The lecture will tackle Manzoni’s masterpiece from the perspective of the apocalyptic novel by means of several quotations. In particular, the lecture will focus on the four horsemen of St John’s Apocalypse, which can be interpreted as the scourges described in the “The Betrothed”, respectively: famine, war, plague, and evil spirits’ intrigues, comparable to wild beasts or diabolic forces.
