Abstract
Igitur, the Livre, Le Tombeau d’Anatole France, Hérodiade: four unfinished projects that, more than those completed, speak to us of Mallarmé’s poetic world, of his imaginative power, of his painful relationship with his own birth and with the experience of death. As if the poetic word was never missing from him by chance, but always by reason of a necessity, or an impossibility to say what is essential. The “missing words”, whose traces are patiently tracked down in the poet’s texts and correspondence, are thus at the centre of the exciting investigation that Luca Bevilacqua conducts in his latest work: Mots manquants. L’inachevé dans l’œuvre de Mallarmé (Tab editions, 2022).
