Elena Riva is Full Professor of Modern History (M-STO/02) at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan. She has been visiting professor at foreign universities. Her research interests focus on the study of aristocracy and aristocratic culture in the modern age, on issues concerning the formation of the Italian ruling classes in the 19th century, on citizenship and civil coexistence, and on ‘female’ courtly models in the Habsburg and Bourbon areas.
