Silvia Salvatici

Associate Professor in Modern History
She was Honorary Research Fellow at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology of Birkbeck College, Associate Research Fellow at the Italian Academy at Columbia University and Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the European University Institute (Department of History and Civilization). She coordinated the programme “Archives of Memory in War-Torn Kosovo” (1999-2001) implemented by the International Organization for Migration. She taught short term courses at the Oral History Summer Institute of Columbia University, at the International Trauma Studies Program of New York University, and at Saint Joseph University in Beirut. She was Susan Currier Visiting Professor for Teaching Excellence in Gender and Humanitarianism, College of Liberal Arts, California Polytechnic State University.
She was chief editor of the journal “Contemporanea. Rivista di storia dell’800 e del ‘900” and she is still member of the editorial board.

Research Interests
Her research interests focus on the history of humanitarianism, European displaced persons in the aftermath of WWII, individual and collective memories in post-war societies, women refugees in the XX century, women’s labour, and the use of photography as source for historical research.
